Reports
You’ve spent countless hours compiling data, writing, and editing — now it’s time to get the final product in front of your audience.
The painful truth is that convoluted, text-heavy documents can be unappealing to read, and many people may choose to ignore them altogether. So don’t let your efforts go unnoticed or unread — use design to encourage readership.
The benefits of professionally designed publications go beyond aesthetics; they will invite readers in and guide them through the content.
Well-organized and descriptively illustrated information helps your audience understand the key messages. Not everyone has the time or patience to read something cover to cover, so with a layout that’s easy to skim, readers can quickly find the information that’s relevant to them.
Do you need printed and digital versions of your publication? No problem! Your document can be optimized for both mediums.
Does your organization or region have accessibility requirements, such as WCAG 2.0, Level AA? I have a thorough process to ensure your document passes with flying colours.
Are you ready to take your report from bland text document to polished publication?
More Than Just a Graphic Designer
As a creative sidekick, I provide direction, advice, and a critical eye to your original text so you can feel confident your content will resonate with your target audience.
Have you ever…
- Felt unsure about what type of lead magnet to create?
- Had trouble distilling your written content into something more concise?
- Struggled to envision what the final piece will look like?
Breathe easy!
You don’t need to have all the answers before connecting with me.
A polished text doc and a detailed sketch of what you want are not required (or even encouraged). I’m here to help you work through the chaos before it’s ready to be designed (as well as design it, of course.)
I’ll help you to:
- decide what format is best suited to your goals and audience
- edit your content, so it’s focused and effective
- design a resource that makes an impact
How I’ll Approach Your Project
Read
I go through the entirety of the content you provide so the ideas can start to percolate in the background.
Scribble
Armed with an astonishing selection of coloured pens, I channel my inner grade-school teacher and mark up the content.
Review
If I’ve made a colourful mess of the document, we can hop on a call to review proposed changes and clear up any questions about the content.
Design
Once the content has passed the initial review, I’ll get rolling with the style and layout. There will likely be another round or two of revisions to get things just right, but by addressing any structural or content issues upfront, the design will be built on a much stronger foundation.
What I scan for when reviewing content:
- Anything that sounds confusing. (If I don’t understand it, your audience may not either.)
- Note sections that would be better served in a different format (e.g. turning a paragraph into list or infographic).
- Highlight bits that would make good callouts or visuals.
- Grammatical errors or typos. (While not an ‘official’ proofreader, I tend to catch quite a bit!)
- Inconsistencies with naming conventions, numbering, etc.
- Establish sections if the hierarchy is poor or non-existent. (This makes for easier reading and scanning.)
- Check the flow of the content and make suggestions if something seems wordy or incomplete.
