How I Can Help
As a creative sidekick, I provide direction, advice, and a critical eye to your original text so you can feel confident your content will resonate with the right audience.
Have you ever…
- felt unsure about what type of content to create?
- had trouble distilling your written content into something more concise?
- struggled to envision what the final piece will look like?
Breathe easy! You don’t need to have all the answers before connecting with me. A polished text doc and a detailed sketch of what you want is not required (or even encouraged). I’m here to help you work through the chaos before it’s ready to be designed (as well as design it, of course.)
I’ll help you:
- decide what format is best suited to your goals and audience
- edit your content so it’s focused and effective
- design a resource that makes an impact
My Process
Read
I go through the entirety of the content you provide so the ideas can start to percolate in the background.
Scribble
Armed with an astonishing selection of coloured pens, I channel my inner grade-school teacher and mark up the content.
What I look for:
- Anything that sounds confusing. (If I don’t understand it, your audience may not either.)
- Note sections that would be better served in a different format (e.g. turning a paragraph into list or infographic).
- Highlight bits that would make good callouts or visuals.
- Grammatical errors or typos. (While not an ‘official’ proofreader, I tend to catch quite a bit!)
- Inconsistencies with naming conventions, numbering, etc.
- Establish sections if the hierarchy is poor or non-existent. (This makes for easier reading and scanning.)
- Check the flow of the content and make suggestions if something seems wordy or incomplete.
Review
If I’ve made a colourful mess of the document, we can hop on a call to review proposed changes and clear up any questions about the content.
Design
Once the content has passed the initial review, I’ll get rolling with the style and layout. There will likely be another round or two of revisions to get things just right, but by addressing any structural or content issues upfront, the design will be built on a much stronger foundation.
